"Are you resenting your business?"
Today, I want to talk about resentment in business. The moment when you feel drained, overwhelmed, and tired of your current lifestyle, the results you are achieving, and the money you are attracting... I've been there.
Business requires study and knowledge. I'll keep repeating this over and over again.
You know why? Because all these feelings that you might be experiencing right now, all this energy around you at this stage, are all due to two factors, which we will discuss shortly.
You lack knowledge about business. Therefore, you don't have a planner that shows how much money you need to make, how much you should charge, the required profit, and how to separate your payment from the business revenue. Then, you start marketing yourself, put an offer together, sell it for less than you should, and you know what happens? You lose money instead of making money. Consequently, you start to feel resentful of your clients, your business, and your life because, essentially, you are paying to work.
Furthermore, because you charge less than you should, you attract average clients who are not committed and tend to complain excessively. As a result, you feel overwhelmed. This can lead to lowering your prices during future sales calls since your belief in yourself diminishes, thereby decreasing your value.
Your energy becomes negative. This negativity results from your lack of business knowledge and poor decisions, causing your energy levels to decline. Subsequently, you attract more unfavourable situations into your life and more problematic clients, making your life feel even more challenging.
Now, I am a strong believer in the law of manifestation. However, I also value understanding things based on science, not just the abstract. So, I conducted research to explore why things happen the way they do, especially from an energetic perspective.
There are two sides to this issue.
Side one: Your negative energy leads to poor decisions, creating a cycle of negativity. Benjamin Libet conducted an experiment in which he asked participants to press a button with their left or right hand. He could predict which hand they would use before they did so. Why? Because your unconscious mind often makes choices for you, challenging the concept of free will. My three-year hobbyist research in this area showed that if you remain fully present in the moment, you can recognize your decisions and change them. This is when you can start making different choices.
A quick note on this: When you're in a sales call and tempted to lower your prices, consider saying something like, "This is what I'm offering, but it can be fully customized for you. Let's work on a proposal and reconvene tomorrow." This pause can help you avoid making hasty decisions and securing the wrong clients. If you are only lowering your prices because you need to pay your bills, you might be better off finding a job to cover your expenses while you develop your business as a side hustle. Falling into the trap of underpricing your services due to a lack of knowledge can lead to a cycle of frustration.
Side two: The universal law of growth. Everything is always evolving, while we often wish for stability, early retirement, and a life without problems. I'm not saying these aspirations are wrong, but the universe continually pushes for growth. If you're not growing, you're stagnating or declining. This is evident in nature, as well.
If you're currently feeling resentment in your business, here's what you can do to make an immediate change:
Fire your clients. I've had to let go of troublesome clients several times, even if it meant losing money initially. However, after a few days, I received new and even more lucrative opportunities because I had created space. If your current clients aren't paying you adequately or are causing you excessive stress, consider letting them go and making room for clients who will pay a fair amount, taking the business perspective into account.
Download my "Pricing Your Services" planner, which includes all the necessary formulas. While it may not be the most elaborate planner, it will significantly boost your confidence in increasing your prices. With it, you can assign a price to every service you offer, taking into account the number of hours you put in. By the way, if the hourly rate for the role you play in your company is too low, consider further study and gaining more experience to warrant a higher rate.
Here's an example:
Let's say you're a business coach providing consulting for entrepreneurs. You're subject to a 25% tax on your profit, and you aim for a 30% profit margin in your services. For your sales calls, you pay yourself 10% as a closer would charge you. You also have marketing costs, even if you're managing them organically. Let's assume you dedicate 15 hours a week to marketing and social media, with an hourly rate of $30. This totals to $1,800 per month. With this level of effort, you can attract one client per month, making your marketing cost $1,800 per client. Now, consider the time and effort you'll invest in delivering your services, including onboarding, calls, and responding to messages and emails. For the sake of this discussion, let's estimate it at 25 hours. If you were to hire someone for this role, you might pay them $50 per hour, totaling $1,250. Additionally, there are other expenses like partial rent, utilities, and more. Let's put that at $200. Without factoring in the abstract concept of your intellectual property, the total cost stands at $3,250. Adding a $375 tax and $325 for the closer (recognizing that these are simplified figures for educational purposes), you arrive at a total cost of $3,900. This means you have zero profit and are paying yourself only $50 per hour. With profit included, the cost rises to $4,875. And this is without accounting for your intellectual property, which is the part many struggle with when it comes to raising prices. In essence, you would need to charge $4,875 to generate any profit. If you're charging less than that, you are not valuing your services properly.
Can you see the significance of this?
Become the person you aspire to be by engaging in energetic work, meditation, breathwork, and maintaining your physical well-being. Transform yourself into someone who generates substantial income.
Set boundaries immediately for yourself and your clients to prevent overextending. Overextending is costing you.
Establish an automated client acquisition system in your business to maintain a consistent stream of potential clients. This will boost your confidence in charging the right prices.
I could continue providing more tips, but I have a meeting with a team member to brainstorm a video. I hope this post has been helpful.
With love,
